Handle tests sent to an outside lab

How outsourced tests work in Laboratory, from sending the sample out to giving the outside lab's report to the patient.

An outsourced test is a test your lab does not run itself. You collect the sample, send it to an outside laboratory, and that lab sends back its own report. In SoftClinic GenX you record where the sample went, then attach the outside lab's report to the test.

note

Who can do this: laboratory staff · Where: Laboratory › Lab Requisitions

How it works

  1. Send the sample out. On the test's Sample Collection panel, the SEND TO (LABORATORY) tab records which lab the sample went to, when, and who sent it. See Send a sample to an outside lab.
  2. Upload the outside lab's report. When the report arrives, click Outsource Report on the test line and attach the lab's PDF. See Upload an outside lab's report.
  3. Open it any time. Click Print on the test line to open the report you uploaded for that test.

The report is the outside lab's own document

For an outsourced test, the report is the PDF the outside lab sends you. You upload it as it is. You do not type the outside lab's results into Result Entry, and you do not print them on your hospital's letterhead. Once a test is marked as sent to an outside lab, Result Entry is no longer offered on its line.

What the patient receives

When a lab order is marked as sent to an outside lab, its report is not sent to the patient automatically on WhatsApp. Download the outside lab's report from the test line and share it with the patient the way your hospital usually does.
