Set up Reaction

Who does this: hospital administrator or medical superintendent Where: Doctor Work Bench › Masters › Reaction

A reaction is what the patient experiences when exposed to an allergen — for example Wheezing, Swelling Of Face or Running Nose. When a doctor records an allergy in the consultation note, they pick the reaction from this list. Common reactions are already in place; add any others your doctors use.

Add a reaction

1. Go to Doctor Work Bench › Masters › Reaction.

2. Click Add. The reaction form opens.

3. Fill in the fields:

   Field	What to enter	Required
   Code	Filled in automatically when you save.	—
   Status	Leave on Active.	—
   Reaction	The short name doctors will pick, for example Hives. Up to 50 characters.	Yes
   Reaction Description	A plain description of the reaction. Up to 1,000 characters.	Yes
   Terminology	The clinical coding system the reaction is coded in, if you use one.	No
   Terminology Code	Filled in automatically from the terminology you pick.	—

4. Click Save. You return to the list and the new reaction appears in it.

Change or deactivate a reaction

1. In the list, click the ⋮ button at the end of the row and choose Edit.
2. Change the fields you need. To stop offering the reaction, switch Status to Inactive.
3. Click Save.

Reactions cannot be deleted from this screen. Make a reaction Inactive instead.

Good to know

• Reaction names must be unique. You cannot save a second reaction with the same name.
• The Terminology list shows the coding systems set up at the top level of the Diagnosis master.
• Use the filter and sort icons in the column headers to find a reaction quickly.
• Click Back to List or Cancel to leave the form without saving.
